Gwalior, one of the largest city in Central India, often referred as the tourist capital of the Madhya-Pradesh is famous for its historical importance and considered as a major city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
Gwalior Fort, was founded in 8 AD by chieftain called Suraj Sen was suffering from leprosy. He was healed by a hermit saint, Gwalipa, and in gratitude the chieftain built a fort to protect the hermits from wild animals and named it after the saint who cured him. Since then, the place around was addressed by the fort and centuries later it was acquisitioned by great dynasties and the city gained new dimensions which has changed hands many times. From the Tomaras in the 8th century, it passed to the Mughals, then the Marathas under the Scindias. Gwalior is now considered to be a city with a rich cultural tradition with the tinge radiance of modern life.
