Ellora is an archaeological site, 29 km (18 mi) North-West of the city of Aurangabad in the Indian state of Maharashtra is famous for its monumental caves.
The cave temples and abbeys at Ellora cluster of 34 caves contain halls of worship. In a period of 600 years between the 5 th and 11 th century AD, the earliest mine here is of the Dhumar Lena (Cave 29).The most magnificent excavation is, that of the Kailasa Temple (Cave 16) which is the largest monolithic structure in the world. Interestingly, Ellora was never 'rediscovered'. Ellora has been designed as a World Heritage Site, to be preserved as an artistic heritage that will continue to instigate and augment the lives of generations to come.
